The essence of the app is to make communication between patients and doctors easier. Keeping in touch by phone often fails because general practitioners are overloaded – they simply do not have the capacity to handle, or even answer, every call with due attention. Our app aims to solve this problem.

During infectious diseases and epidemics, protecting our GPs is especially important – they are on the front line.

At the same time, it is essential to preventively protect the rest of the population from contact with patients suspected of being infected.

How it would work in practice

1. The app would have two types of users: Doctor and Patient. After registering with a mobile phone number – and entering or detecting their location – Patients can choose their own GP or the nearest GP in our system.
2. Through the database and support of the Hungarian Medical Chamber, we would reach out to GPs, who would receive an invitation (by e-mail, text message or phone) and could register as Doctors using the code we send.
3. During registration, a questionnaire asks about the Patient’s symptoms (fever, dry cough, breathing, etc.), which the system uses to prioritise new patients. Doctors see the latest data of their patients and can sort them by severity or date.
4. Using push notifications, the app prompts patients to keep up continuous monitoring: updating symptoms, measuring temperature, taking medication, fluid intake and following the doctor’s instructions. Like an e-prescription, the Doctor can record prescribed medicines with dosage, and the app reminds the patient to take them.
5. Based on the Patient’s data, the Doctor can assess their health status, and further treatment is decided accordingly.

Contact tracing and data protection

When an infectious disease is diagnosed, patients unlock further features. Since registration is by phone number, a registered patient would see which contacts from their phone book are already registered with us. We then offer to send a warning – by name or anonymously – through our system to the people they have been in contact with. This approach complies with the EU’s GDPR, while we also encourage patients to warn their personal contacts themselves.

The app also helps patients feel closer to their GP – even if only virtually – so they do not feel left alone because of an overloaded health-care system. Statistics from the data in our system give a clearer picture of the epidemic situation in Hungary and even abroad, supporting prevention.
